Canadian country and western singer-songwriter Corb Lund has unveiled “I Had It All”, the latest glimpse into his upcoming album, “El Viejo”, set to release on February 23rd, 2024, via New West Records.
In his own words, Lund describes “I Had It All” as a spirited exploration of western gambling themes, expressing his appreciation for the swampy sound and the harmonica elements in the track. The singer-songwriter shared that the song holds personal significance, containing some of his favourite lines from the entire album.
Lund recently expanded his tour schedule, including additional headline dates in the UK and Europe to support the release of El Viejo. The European leg kicks off with two shows in the Netherlands on May 28th and 29th, followed by a performance in Austria’s Kalsdorf town on June 7th. The tour concludes in the UK with shows in London, Manchester, Birkenhead, and Kilkenny on June 19th, 20th, 21st, and 23rd, respectively. Tickets for the tour are available for purchase.
Produced by Lund and recorded in his living room in Lethbridge, AB, alongside his band The Hurtin’ Albertans, El Viejo marks Lund’s return to original material since 2020’s acclaimed “Agricultural Tragic”. The album draws inspiration from Lund’s musical influences, featuring a common theme of the gambler and the wandering outlaw.
“El Viejo”, dedicated to the late Ian Tyson, a Canadian singer-songwriter and Lund’s mentor, is an acoustic endeavour with a focus on minor keys and gambling themes. Lund emphasizes the organic nature of the recording, executed without the presence of electric instruments or external producers.
Scheduled for release in various formats, including digital retailers, compact disc, and standard black vinyl, “El Viejo” will also be available in limited editions, such as Black & White Splatter Vinyl with an autographed postcard and an autographed compact disc edition, both offered for pre-order via NEW WEST RECORDS.
