Ruth Mac unveils captivating live video for “Abundance”

Ruth Mac, the slacker rock artist hailing from Galway, Ireland, and currently based in Berlin, has unveiled plans for her first headline show of 2024. The performance is scheduled to take place at Berlin’s Schokoladen on the 22nd of March, featuring support from Utrecht’s Tamara van Esch.

In anticipation of this event, Mac has shared a live video of her track “Abundance”, extracted from her debut EP, “Living Room”, released in 2021 under Beth Shalom Records. The song has garnered significant acclaim during its numerous live renditions, establishing itself as a fan favourite. Mac’s four-piece band configuration infuses the live version of “Abundance” with a spacious, synth-driven ambiance, anchored by a groove reminiscent of Khruangbin, skilfully executed by drummer Conall O’Maolain and bassist Nick Fox. This rendition creates ample room for Mac’s vocals to ascend, allowing her lyrics to shine.

Regarding the track, Mac elucidates, “A love song in essence, ‘Abundance’ details a leap of fate toward a new life abroad and celebrates love as a constant throughout the trials and tribulations that come with starting afresh in a new country.”

The accompanying video, shot in Mac’s personal studio on the outskirts of Berlin, is a collaboration with Not Clean Productions, a label and community production company founded by Mac’s collaborator, Mark Glaister, in the same studio. Glaister, who engineered the live session, also played a pivotal role in the production, while Berlin-based Irish filmmaker Josh Meany took charge of filming and editing.

Since the release of her debut EP in 2021, Mac has taken her live show across Ireland, the UK, and Germany, sharing stages with notable acts such as Hot Chip, Ye Vagabonds, and The Big Moon. Her upcoming headline show at Berlin’s Schokoladen on the 22nd of March is poised to be another milestone in her musical journey.
